In short

QuillBot gives you ready-made tools: a paraphraser with modes, a grammar checker, a summariser, an AI detector, a plagiarism checker and citations.1 On Windows it's strongest in the browser, on its website and in Word.1,2 Rithere has none of those tools. Instead, any instruction you write becomes a shortcut.3

Pick Rithere if you…

  • want more than paraphrasing: emails from notes, explanations, replies
  • want it in Outlook, Slack and VS Code, not just grammar fixes there
  • want to rewrite long passages, up to about 8,000 words at once

Pick QuillBot if you…

  • paraphrase a lot and like picking a style and how many words change
  • need plagiarism checks or citations for coursework
  • work on a Mac or a phone

One rewrite, step by step

Same job in both: reword a paragraph in an Outlook email. QuillBot's Windows app fixes grammar there but doesn't paraphrase yet.4

For students

QuillBot offers student plans,1 so here's the honest version for students. For plagiarism checks, citations or an AI detector before you submit, use QuillBot. Rithere helps while you study: highlight a hard paragraph in a PDF and get a plain explanation beside your cursor,8 or turn notes into revision notes.3 Check your school's rules on AI tools either way.

Privacy

  • QuillBot uses your inputs to train and personalise its tools by default. Its browser extensions let you opt out, and it doesn't train on Team Plan users.18
  • Rithere uses Google's Gemini AI on a paid plan. Rithere's servers don't store your text; Google keeps it 55 days only to check for abuse and doesn't use it to improve its products. Your History stays on your PC.20

Our take

If paraphrasing is the job and you want fine control, plus the academic tools around it, QuillBot is built for exactly that. If you'd rather say what you want in your own words, once, and use it on a key in Outlook, Slack or anywhere else on Windows, that's Rithere, free today. You can keep both.

For the technically curious
  • QuillBot is part of Learneo, formerly Course Hero.21 Its Premium modes are Humanizer, Formal, Academic, Simple, Creative, Expand, Shorten and Custom.5
  • Summariser: 1,200 words per input free, 6,000 on Premium.22 The paraphraser supports 23 languages.23
  • The Word add-in needs an internet connection and a QuillBot account.2
  • In Word and Outlook, Rithere keeps bold and other formatting in your selection.24 A selection can be up to 50,000 characters.

FAQ
